It is said that an ice jam in the upper river caused the falls to stop flowing, thus causing it to freeze.

A man stands bravely at the bottom of the falls.

In 1875, as people walked on the bed of the falls, it is said that they found, muskets, arrowheads and even
tomahawks from the War of 1812.
The word Niagra comes from the Iroquois Indian word "Onguiaahra" meaning "the strait." Over the years,
many daredevil stunts have been performed over the falls. The first person to successfully go over the falls
and survive was a 63 year old lady school teacher.

Perhaps the most famous to actually walk across the falls
was "Blondin." If you look closely it seems as if there are two
figures in the picture. In fact there are - as he performed his
feat carrying his manager on his back and stopping at the
middle to rest!
