Giving Back
In 1997 the City of San Antonio named The Sonny Melendrez Community Center
as a way of saying thank you for Sonny's commitment to youth, both locally and
nationally. His has delivered his motivational presentations urging students to
stay in school, say no to drugs, and follow their dreams, at over 1400 schools
nationwide. He was commended for his efforts by President Reagan and received
the Department Of Justice Modern Hero Award. It is estimated that he has
helped to raise over 100 million dollars in money, goods, and services for
